Below is a poem that I wrote sometime between graduating high school and graduating undergrad… It won a small scholarship for one of my finial semesters at UNCo!

Fall Is Now In Session
For those that do not know
It is soon to be the fall season
Where there will not be enough chow
And your bill will not be within reason
Football, food, friends, and laughs
Will soon be upon us
Muscles will be built especially in the calves
And spectators will have to avoid a cuss
Clothing lines will be full of jerseys
Food dishes will constantly be empty
You hope to God that things won’t stay dirty
When the team is in assembly
All the married women will be single
But only until December
Friends will continuously mingle
Everyone will show, including the Council Member
The television set will be full of plays
Plays gone bad and plays gone good
Don’t stress over your new grays
Your boys will soon enter manhood
The night lights spotlight your player
And make you the proudest fan
You’ll sit and answer questions for the paper
But you won’t mind sharing, it has just began
There will be weeks to come of questions
Uncertainty in plays
Leaving more time to practice their lessons
Even when they have fallen you will continue your praise
When the end comes
And you are exhausted
From toting around the big guns
You will wish to be rewarded
By the time two weeks of no ball comes around
You’ll miss it ever so dearly
Wishing it would start and take away your frown
But this year they will start early
This is the best decompression
Football is starting now
Fall is now in session
Players, take your bow
We are waiting for the first game
And the last
All while dreading the time without a name
If it isn’t football season, it isn’t a blast
Love the sport
Pray for the coach
Praise the support
Don’t be a roach
Fall is now session
Hug your players as they depart
This is no depression
This is a fine art
Football is here
And fall is now in session
